Legionella prevention
Numerous ways of keeping Legionella at bay are already known:
- Processes of chemical, physical and electrolytical bactericide. The latter is also known under the process designations of "anodicoxidation", "electrochemical disinfection" and "chlorineelectrolysis".
- Chemical disinfection, either continually or discontinually, using such agents as chlorine, for example, can have a not able effect on water quality. However, detrimental effects on the pipe systems cannot be ruled out.
- In thermal treatment, as a discontinuous process, the water is first heated to 70°C
and the whole pipework rinsed through for
at least 3 minutes. During this time, you must be particularly
observant of the safety provisions in place against accidental
scalding. Particularly up-to-date and of great advantage:
the PERFEKT fittings series from Kuhfuss Sanitär featuring an integrated bypass
and optional magnetic valve for exact control of the thermal treatment of the whole fitting.
- The electrolytical water disinfection employs an electrical current to create a disinfectant medium directly in the water through the electrochemical conversion of the dissolved matter. Given the prerequisite that the required dissolved matter is present in the water, the electrochemical processes can change it into a disinfectant medium with a basis of oxygen and chlorine.
- One example of a continuous process is filtration, which offers a mechanical means of filtering out the Legionella. The filtered elements are then disposed of with the waste water. Particular advantage: Ultrafiltration is suitable for use in both cold and warm water pipes.
Another note on your security:
Legionella testing is performed by testing institutes. Recommendations and assistance are provided by, amongst others, specialist plumbing firms (where these existin the region), so-called environmental telephone lines at municipal offices, hygiene and environmental institutes and civic health authorities. In addition, independent testing institutes and laboratories also offer their services on the internet: take a look at the range of offers by entering the word "legionella" in a search engine. This search will also provide you with an extensive overview of the latest events in connection with Legionella, scientific findings and diverse processes.
